The Met Gala Fashion Forgot the Most Important Accessory…Eyewear

Each year, the Met Gala attracts the biggest names and designers to raise money for the Costume Institute. Although it’s reported that many of the biggest names didn’t join the Met Gala this year due to COVID-19 and its restrictions, there were many others willing to take their spot.

With all of the elaborate costumes and jewelry accessories, how can you miss one of the most important accessories that brings an outfit together…eyewear. Out of all the pictures viewed, there were maybe one or two people with sunglasses. Seriously?

Eyewear brings an outfit together. Depending on the costume, you can go full-frame eyewear, semi-rimless eyewear or rimless. Each makes its own statement…easily complimenting the costume of choice.

So we thought it would be fun to take a few celebrities from WWD or the prestigious Woman’s Wear Daily, and choose 3 random pictures and pair them with high-fashion eyewear. Here we go:

Alain Mikli high-fashion eyeglasses

Venus Williams in a stunning red dress. She chose only earrings for the accessory and finished it off with an artistic hairstyle. A pop of red on her eyes would have completed the outfit.

Suggestion: Alain Mikli high-fashion eyeglasses would have been a perfect choice. The French made metal glasses would have helped draw the eye from the dress to the tip of her head.

Face A Face eyewear

Next on our list is Gemma Chan with this beautiful short and classy gown. Simply accessorized with a necklace, brings out the bling in the dress. However, what about that stunning lime green? Missing the mark on the boldest color she’s got going on.

Suggestion: You can’t go wrong with the high-fashion, all about art Face-A-Face. If she wore these statement eyeglasses, it would have completed the ensemble and given her the edge that she needed with the outfit.

zilli eyewear

Finally, Karen Elson, an elegant dress that’s understated and gorgeous. The colors are a perfect complement against her skin tone and hair. Well done. But sad to say, she could have put a bit of pizazz to it.

Suggestion: These Zilli fashion-forward handmade cellulose acetate eyewear would have confirmed, ‘you’re a movie star’. The shape of the sunglasses matches the flowy, yet tailored look of the dress.

Not only would you look from the bottom to the top, but from the top to the bottom too. Either way, it’s the right choice.

There you go. Framebay.com adding high-fashion eyewear for the Met Gala. Maybe next year they’ll give us a call to complete the look.
